Beach Bliss Comes to an End

Our days on Caye Caulker started with greetings such as: “Morning beautiful ladies.”  “How are you doing gorgeous?”  “How was heaven like when you left it?”  Yesterday, on our last day on the island, the exchange by two locals as we walked by sounded like this:  “Damn!”  “A little too orange...”  I take that as a clear sign what we have received enough sun and that as much as we don’t want to, it is time to head home.
Caye Caulker has indeed proved to be a little island paradise for us.  Between all the snorkeling and diving we did not do much.  There is only so many times you can walk the 2 km of street from our Cabanas (located virtually at the southernmost point of the island) to the Split (located at its northernmost point).  Once you have done that about 20 times, all that is left for you to do is to lay down on the beach or the dock, to sit in the water, to read a book, to enjoy a hammock, to drink a delicious smoothie, to savor the fantastic food or simply to do nothing.  And that is exactly what we did for the last few days.
We slept until we could sleep no more (usually that moment came somewhere around 7am). We soaked in the water until we got all prunny. We tanned until we turned orange (?).   We read until our voices got hoarse.  We drank until our bellies got bloated.  We sat and relaxed until we started to go stir-crazy.
So it was with heavy hearts that we began packing our bags and with sadness had to say goodbye to this incredibly demanding lifestyle.  After two months my adventures through Central America have come to an end.  Hopefully there will be others like it in the near future.  For now, all that will remain is this blog, my photos and my memories.
Maybe in a few months I will be able to put together a presentation from the trip.  There will most definitively be a couple more posts, summing up the Belize expenses as well as comparing and contrasting all of the Central American countries.  There might also be a post with some of the more amusing anecdotes that for one reason or another had not made their way into any of the other blog entries, so check in again in a week or so and stay in touch.  If you have any questions, are planning your own trip to Central America, please feel free to contact me.
Thank you!  It has been a pleasure!
